Portfolio: Christmas Program

Kathy Tran

For my "Do Something" project, I decided to focus on my church's annual Christmas program because it is important to me. It allows me to strengthen my faith and grow closer with my church community. The purpose of the program is to reach out to non-believers and to bring our community together in Christ.

I am an active member of this program. Me and my youth group mainly do singing and skits. This is for the audiences' entertainment, but also to tell the story/message of Jesus Christ.

My Ignite Talk

In my ignite presentation, I include various photos of the process and journey towards the day of the Christmas program. There were a total of 20 slides, each only presented for 15 seconds. I talked about the 4 main parts of the program, which includes singing, dancing, skits, and lesson/sermons.

My Ignite talk shows the audience how much effort it takes to pull off a such big event. My church plans 2 months in advance in order to put on an entertaining but also, imformative event. The photos show our weekly practices and also the final show of singing, dancing, skits, etc.

My Survey Data

In this chart, I asked my members which activity they were apart of. A majority chose singing/band, making it the most popular activity in our program. From this, I can conclude that maybe we should focus more on the music aspects of the program since it is the best way in bringing the church together.

In this chart, I asked my members if they've ever invited non-believers. The majority said no, which shows that maybe we should having a meeting to find out why or how we can solve this. We can't grow our church if we don't take the first, big step of reaching out to others.

In this chart, I asked my members if the program helped sustain their faith. A majority of them either said no or kind of. This shows that there is an internal problem within the church, bringing up the question of why or how can this be fixed? Looking at the data collected, maybe if we did more music since it is the most popular, it can help members feel more connected to the church and God, essentially helping their faith.

My Pathway: Photography

I used photography as my pathway because it was the best way to caputure the very memorable moments of the process towards the final day of the event. There are multiple photos down below of the different activities me and my church members do for the program. The photos capture our work process and also the finisihing touch of the skits, dances, singing, etc. I edited the photos down below to fit the mood of each picture and to make it look dramatic/interesting. Go look and make your own interpretations of my edits! In these photos, I used:
